A new brand (and name)

I’m sitting here in LA, having spent the day at AEC TECH+, and just now, I’m updating all our marketing – website, social accounts, etc. – to Codesign, Spaces’ new brand.

We’ve been in the market for over 18 months now, and while we love the Spaces name as it encapsulates our vision, we have found it a problematic name from an awareness/marketing standpoint.

Earlier this year, we decided to improve our Spaces brand, so we engaged with Simon and the team at Previously Unavailable.

We had wide-ranging discussions, and while the exercise aimed to improve and refine the Spaces brand, we were open to exploring all opportunities. With that, the name was up for review.

Change is always difficult, but being open to change is the first step to succeeding. We embarked on this journey together, working extensively with Simon, Hannah and Harry. As we explored names, colours, and messaging, we collectively developed our new brand, Codesign.

With today’s launch of Codesign, we are extremely happy with what we’ve achieved. This rebranding has opened up new possibilities and created a strong platform for our future growth and success.

You can read more over on the Codesign blog.

The Energy Tree (Bristol)

Having last week visited Lisbon, this week I am in our UK Office in Bristol.

When I arrived people were working frantically outside the  at-Bristol Science Centre which is just across from my Hotel.

Later on I investigated and saw the installation was a Solar Tree, providing power for people to sit down and charge their cellphones.

It was interesting to see the project was also being under taken by people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse.

Last night when I got back to my hotel, they were hosting an opening event, hence why they had been working so late the night before.

Overall I thought this was a pretty cool idea!

Icebreaker – Design Discipline

As mentioned previously I as recently at the Better by Design CEO Conference. The Chairman of BBD is Jeremy Moon who is the founder of Icebreaker.

For those of you unfamiliar with Icebreaker there was recently an article in the New Zealand Herald. While not a comprehensive overview of the business it does outline much of the underlying philosophy of Icebreaker.

One quote mentioned at the BBD conference that I particularly liked was:

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

– Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Jeremy shares this attitude  in his words:

“It’s much easier to add stuff than take stuff away. Taking stuff away is discipline”
